Welcome to my little corner of hair magic. My name is Jaci Herrera and I’m the face behind Evie hair studio.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with hair and all it’s possibilities. As a small child, I would sit at the kitchen table and watch our family friend do my mother’s hair. Little did she know what an influence she would play in my life. At the ripe old age of 13, I announced to my parents this is what I wanted to do with my life. I began my education in hair at 16. I would attend school on Saturdays and during breaks from high school. With, guess who as my instructor and mentor… that family friend. I graduated high school and cosmetology school in the summer of 1987, and I was off and running!

I enjoyed spending the first 28 years of my career working in the city where education and involvement were at the forefront. Every year I hone my skills by taking as many education classes as possible. While I enjoy all types of hair, it was in these classes that I discovered my passion for razor cutting and short hair. 

 

Born and raised in Chicago, I’m the youngest of 5 and was the 4th generation to live on the same block. Family and community are everything. 

I moved to the city of Park Ridge to raise my son Odin and after a few years, I jumped at an opportunity to open my own studio here. I chose to name the salon Evie as a homage to my great-aunt Evelyn who was a hairstylist in the 1940’s. You’ll see a photo of her in my studio as well as some of her hair tools. Living and working here in Park Ridge,

 

I truly feel a sense of community and love to give back whenever possible.

When I’m not behind the chair, my creativity spills into my free time. My hobbies include baking tasty treats such as pies, cookies and scones. I created a project called Red Squirrel Pies and offer bakes to family and friends during the holidays. When the weather is nice, I love to work in my garden growing not only herbs and veggies, but creating a sanctuary for the pollinators. During the pandemic, I  learned how to find butterfly eggs in my garden, raise caterpillars, and release them once they transformed to Monarchs and Swallowtails. Art in all its forms has always played a major role in my life and my current passion is acrylic painting. You’ll always see one of my current pieces hanging in the salon.

At Evie hair studio, I’ve created a warm, inviting laid back atmosphere where the music is always chill and you can enjoy a tasty treat and beverage. Peruse and take something home from my jigsaw puzzle collection and the take-or-leave little library. I am passionate about reading and alway love discussing books.
